Chema Madoz

Over the years, Chema Madoz has developed a very intimate style. He remains faithful to the use of black and white because it gives the work a small distance from reality and introduces us to a new universe full of life, much more complicated than the color of an object and the message that can transmit its images.

The way to express and represent your images is really admirable. His way of taking photos with simple objects, such as books, watches, spoons, matches, musical scores or water in their different states. The accuracy and purity of Chema Madoz's photographs sometimes means that they have been classified as cold. Certainly, it eliminates any possible expression of feeling or emotion and only the poetic melancholy of its colorless photographs seems to appear on occasion.

When choosing the frames, the light or the objects, it shows a clinical rigor and moves us once more away from the real world, it places us in an ideal world, an imaginative one, free from evil. The objective of Chema Madoz is not to flatter our senses, but to our intelligence, it causes less attention to the creation of paradoxes and focuses on the graphic possibilities they bring, bringing their photography closer to the drawing. I really like the idea of this picture, because for me it represents how someone dreams can feel like they are total dammed.

His way of retaking an interest in the landscape although with a less thematic development. It does not photograph large landscapes, but it is limited to reducing it to its only expression. His photographs have a very clean treatment. This clarity facilitates the understanding of the constructed metaphor. In the same way that a poet manipulates the words at will. For this reason the active involvement of the viewer is required, which has to rework the new meanings.

Manipulate reality, or rather the disorder against the laws of logic discovering a new symbolic truth. It exploits the symbolic capabilities of objects to the fullest and helps us discover a new reality hidden behind the apparent everydayness of objects.

There was also a significant leap in the conception of the object to be photographed. At first it was limited to portraying things that already existed, in a purely photographic work. In the first photographs, they appeared in the places where it was usual to find them, such as a book on a shelf. The neutral background allows to eliminate any external reference such as time or emotions, trying to get them to appear to float in a vacuum without time.
The fact of facing fully everyday but decontextualized objects pleasantly surprises, since they have the ability to transport the viewer to universes that he believed impossible. The photograph was born to capture the moment, so that the objects disappear as a work of art once they have been registered and stored in a warehouse in the artist's studio. 
The important thing in Chema Madoz is photography, they are always accessory to the photographic event. It shows that it takes a lot of work to take his photographs, but above all originality. This type of presentation for the public provides a distance, returns them to an untouchable territory, as special as the place where it comes from, the imagination.
